BODY CONDITION AND KIDNEY DISEASE IN DOGS




One of the major problems in the treatment of dogs with chronic kidney disease and reduced kidney function is maintaining an optimal nutrition state. A study conducted at Iowa State University (VJ Parker and LM Freeman, Association between Body Condition and Survival in Dogs with Acquired Chronic Kidney Disease, J Vet Intern Med 2011) evidenced that dogs in renal failure (IRIS stages 2, 3 and 4) that have a better state of nutrition or even overweighted at diagnosis, have an average survival time higher than patients with poor nutrition.
